For this project I got to create a set of 6 costumes for a biopic film based on the Chinese Empress Dowager Cixi. This was a university project so all of the research was conducted by myself, so tried hard to make every element of the costume as accurate as I could. If I had the opportunity to do a similar project in future I would hire a team of researchers with wealthy knowledge in this area to back up my designs further. I thoroughly enjoyed this project and my knowledge Qing dynasty clothing has heavily expanded. Five of the costumes were based off original paintings, portraits or photographs of Cixi throughout her life. The costume on the far left is inspired solely by information and other garment research.
